Laboratory Tests 101: What is Biocompatibility Testing?

In the world of medicine and technology, there are a lot of processes and terms that are not easily understood by common people, most especially if you don’t have any medical background or knowledge about it. It is quite hard for normal people to understand the terms and probably the tests that they are undergoing. There a lot of laboratory tests that basically confuses everyone.

 

With the different types of laboratory tests in a microbiology lab, there are instances that you might not know which one to take. Although, among these numerous lab tests, there is one lab test that still confuses a lot of people. This test is the biocompatibility testing. People don’t know what the testing is for and what good it does for us.

 

For starters, biocompatibility testing is a process that is done to compare the tissue responses of a person when he or she is about to be introduced to new medication and substances. This microbiology lab test is done to ensure that the use of medicines and certain dosage are safe for intake. This is important because it determines if the person has allergic reaction to the type of medicine or substance that may harm their body.

 

Biocompatibility testing is a test for irritation and for any delayed type of hypersensitivity like epicutaneous reactions, intracutaneaus or intradermal reaction, occlusion lobuli procedure and more. Also, it is done to for acute systemic toxicity such as anomalous toxicity, subacute systemic toxicity, sub chronic systemic toxicity and pyrogenic substances of the endotoxic and the non – endotoxic origins. This test will ensure every person that the medication they take in is good and safe for their body and health!
